Comtech successfully tested and validated a 5G network on a satellite.

According to a March 15 report by Telecompaper, Comtech today announced that it has successfully tested and validated 5G connectivity over Greece’s satellite network in collaboration with three global technology leaders: CloudSignals, HellasSat, and a leading mobile network operator (MNO).
During the testing phase, a commercial 5G node was connected to the MNO’s 5G test‑bed network and relayed via a satellite link provided by HellasSat. Ken Peterman, President and CEO of Comtech, stated: “This test demonstrates the potential of integrating satellite and terrestrial technologies to deliver 5G capabilities to remote areas that are either unconnected or underserved by conventional terrestrial and wireless infrastructure.”
Comtech’s technologies include its ELEVATE Very Small Aperture Terminal solution, which delivers high‑speed backhaul services for 5G‑based satellite connectivity. Today, satellites play a critical role in helping mobile network operators serve customers in remote and underserved areas, offering a flexible, cost‑effective, scalable, and reliable solution for delivering communication services.
